How to Reduce Patreon Fees

You can't make Patreon's fees disappear, but the structure of those fees gives you real levers. The biggest one is the fixed per-transaction charge buried in payment processing — every move below is really about paying that fixed fee fewer times.

Offer annual membership billing

When a patron pays once a year instead of twelve times, you incur the fixed per-transaction processing fee once instead of twelve times. The percentage portion is unchanged, but the flat-fee drag drops sharply — especially on smaller tiers where that flat fee is a meaningful share of each charge. Offering a small discount for annual sign-ups can be more than paid for by the fee savings.

Encourage fewer, larger pledges

Because the fixed fee hits every transaction regardless of size, a $20 tier is far more fee-efficient than four $5 tiers generating the same revenue across separate charges. Structuring tiers so patrons consolidate into a single larger pledge means fewer flat fees and a higher effective take-home rate.

Choose the plan that fits

Patreon's platform fee scales with the plan you pick. If you aren't using the features a higher-tier plan unlocks, you're paying a larger platform cut for nothing. Periodically re-check whether your plan matches the features you actually use — downgrading to a leaner plan directly lowers the platform-fee layer. Treat specific plan percentages as "as of 2026 — check Patreon's current rates".

Minimize currency conversion

Where possible, use a payout method and account currency that avoids an extra conversion margin. The conversion fee is small per transaction but compounds across every payout, so aligning your payout currency with how you're actually paid trims another slice off the top.
